THERMAL COATING ENGINEER
Location: Santa Clara, CA
Position Type: Full-Time
• Annual Salary: $150,000 - $160,000

The Santa Clara facility specializes in advanced thermal coating applications while also providing on-site coating solutions for customers throughout a variety of industries.
They are seeking an experienced Thermal Coating Engineer who combines strong technical expertise in materials engineering and thermal spray technologies with operational leadership. This position will be responsible for quoting projects, developing coating parameters, overseeing process implementation, supporting customer initiatives, and contributing to the company's commercial and financial success.
As a key technical and operational leader, you will drive the continuous improvement of thermal coating capabilities while supporting the day-to-day operations of the facility.
This role includes optimizing thermal spray processes—including HVLP, Plasma Spray, Twin Wire Arc Spray, and 3D Printing technologies—validating coating qualifications, supporting prototype and production projects, and contributing to budgeting, profitability, and overall business growth.
Engineering & Technical Leadership
• Develop, validate, and optimize thermal spray and coating procedures.
• Establish coating parameters for new and existing customer projects.
• Ensure coatings meet aerospace, energy, and applicable industry standards.
• Troubleshoot coating processes, equipment, and production challenges.
• Maintain coating procedures, process documentation, and qualification records.
• Partner directly with customers on prototype development and research & development projects.
• Evaluate new coating technologies and identify opportunities for continuous process improvement.
Operations & Business Leadership
• Support budgeting, financial forecasting, cost control, and overall profitability initiatives.
• Assist with project quoting and cost estimation.
• Oversee manufacturing output, production scheduling, workflow, and on-time delivery of coated components.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout production operations.
• Maintain accurate documentation and standardized operational procedures.
• Conduct weekly operational meetings to review sales activity, accounts receivable/payable, upcoming projects, production schedules, and operational challenges.
• Collaborate with leadership to support long-term strategic growth and operational excellence.
Education
• Bachelor's degree or trade school certification in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Technical Experience
• Professional experience with high-temperature coatings and thermal spray technologies.
• Hands-on experience with thermal spray processes such as HVLP, Plasma Spray, Twin Wire Arc Spray, or related coating systems.
• Experience supporting prototype development, research and development projects, and customer-facing engineering initiatives.
• Strong understanding of coating qualifications, process validation, and applicable industry standards.
Leadership Experience
• Previous leadership experience within a manufacturing or industrial production environment.
• Ability to balance technical engineering responsibilities with operational and business objectives.
• Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.
